Electricians, HVAC technicians, maintenance mechanics and other skilled trades are hard to hire for in many regions. You can't control the market. You can control a surprising amount of what happens once a candidate is interested.
Respond the same day
Skilled tradespeople are often weighing more than one offer. A reply within hours rather than days is one of the simplest advantages any employer can give themselves.
Lead with what candidates check first
Pay range, shift, location, and whether tools, vehicle or certifications are provided. Put these at the top of the posting, not at the bottom.
Be specific about the work
"Commercial rooftop units, mostly preventive maintenance, some on-call weekends" tells a technician far more than "HVAC Technician, competitive pay". Specific postings attract the people who actually fit.
Keep the process short
One conversation with the hiring manager and a practical check of skills is often enough. Every extra step is another chance to lose a good candidate to a faster employer.
Say yes to potential
A candidate one certification short may be worth hiring and supporting through it. Be clear about what you will help with.
