SQL Tuning and Mainframe DBA

Job Description:

This role is responsible to manage and improve our DB2 databases on IBM mainframe systems. This role focuses on keeping our systems running smoothly and making sure SQL queries are fast and efficient. You’ll work with developers, monitor performance, and help keep the data safe and reliable.

Roles & Responsibilities:

• Translation of business requirements into a physical model for implementation with a focus on a clear understanding of processing requirements (peak times, # trans etc.), performance, availability, recoverability, and data access methods.
• Collaborate with application development teams to review SQL code, recommend indexing
  strategies, and ensure optimized interaction between applications and DB2.
• Participate in capacity planning and workload forecasting to support business growth and system scalability.
• Utilize IBM and BMC DB2 utilities (REORG, RUNSTATS, LOAD, COPY, RECOVER,
  UNLOAD) to support data integrity, recovery, and high availability.
• Design and maintain scalable database structures, including PBG/PBR tablespaces, temporal
  tables, and archive-enabled tables, in alignment with business and recoverability
  requirements.
• Conduct information sharing meetings with the application teams when requested.

Education & Experience:

• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, or a related field.
• IBM Certified Database Administrator
• 5+ years of DB2 experience on IBM z/OS.
